BOBBI SHEARER |

Ruidoso Regional Council For The Arts |
| As a young child, Bobbi Shearer lived on a ranch in a remote
area of West Texas. She began painting and drawing at the age of
9 under the direction of Mike Capron, a neighbor and
accomplished Western artist. Mike Capron instructed her on
seeing the world through a painter’s eyes, and to observe the
light and gestures of the world around her.
Years later, she attended the College of Santa Fe, and spent her spare time in the galleries and art museums, Moving back South, she studied fine art and design at New Mexico State University and Eastern New Mexico University. Although she ultimately, she changed her major and opted for "real job" as a paralegal, she never lost her love of painting. In her 30's she began to paint again in acrylics and more recently in watercolors and oil paints. She has exhibited watercolors and acrylics as part of the Art in Public Places program, the Artwalk at River Crossing, and the Treasures of the Sierra Blanca Artshow, and is currently represented by the Imagine That, Inspired Living Gallery in Ruidoso. Bobbi lives in Capitan, New Mexico with her husband, Russell, sons, Zachary and Wade, and two unruly black labs. Artist Statement I am drawn to flowers and landscapes and the organic gestures of nature, sometimes set against the lines and angles of manmade things. I love the way paints lies on a canvas, the curves and blends of it . I think the essence of a painting is in loveliness of the gesture and the paint itself, as much as the color and the subject. I strive to achieve that quality of paint and brush stroke that holds the viewer and allows the eye to travel around the canvas and discover the nuances of the way the paint catches and turns the light. |
