When Dorothy moved to Las Cruces, she became a member of the Southern Chapter of the New Mexico Watercolor Society and the Las Cruces Art Association. She participated in group shows in Las Cruces. Dorothy moved to Ruidoso in January 2006. She participates in the Treasures of Sierra Blanca and displays at the Regional Council of Art Gallery in Ruidoso, The Gallery in Roswell and Oso Art in Capitan. She participates in the Art in the Pines Studio Tour. She’s quite prolific, with almost one hundred of her colorful images hanging in her studio and home. Her studio, behind the Swiss Chalet, is open for the Tour and, otherwise, by appointment only. Of her work Dorothy Duff says, “I look over my art books to get new ideas to experiment with, and settle into painting only when I’m inspired to do so. My work moves me into a right-brained state. Every painting is a challenge, a dare to try something new. Watercolor suits me best with its unexpected happenings and layered colors. However, if I do a painting in fine detail, I choose pastels instead. And I love to see my art hanging in someone else’s home.” |
