Juniper Root Vessel

One only has to look at Madeleine Sabo’s artwork to know the artist is locked into a passionate love affair with nature.  It is not surprising that both her home and studio in Nogal, New Mexico are set on top of a mountain which offers beauty and seclusion while providing inspiration for her artwork. As an accomplished artist,  Madeleine has won many awards, including Best of Show from the NM Women’s Club State Convention, the Public Choice award for her painting of a seven-foot bear in the Great Bear Hunt in Ruidoso, NM, Honorable Mention in the New Mexico State Fair along with a host of other awards though out her career.  Madeleine has been prominently featured in several renowned magazines including “Country Magazine” and “New Mexico Magazine.”

Her love of wood and her artistic abilities are expressed in her wood art.  Turning pieces of wood into art on a lathe is just the latest of her endeavors.  Utilizing many native New Mexico woods, she hand turns one of a kind bowls, intricate vases and unusual vessels on a wood lathe. Capitalizing on her other artistic skills she then enhances her creations with wood burned appointments and delicate hand painted designs.  Hand-carved touches are sometimes added to certain pieces to enhance the beauty and wood grain.

As an active member of the art and wood-working community, Madeleine shares her talents with other aspiring artists and wood workers. She is the current President of the local woodturning club the Mountaintop Turners.  Along with selling her artwork at various galleries and shows, she also offers private wood turning and wood burning lessons.
