FSA Photographers…in Santa Fe

In the mid-1930s, the Farm Security Administration was established as a part of the New Deal. For ten years, the Information Division of the agency hired writers and photographers to provide press and educational information to the public. While photography was not the primary purpose of the F.S.A., its outstanding photography program is perhaps what the agency is best known for.

The New Mexico Museum of Art is currently showing the work of three FSA photographers in New Mexico – John Collier Jr., Jack Delano, and Russell Lee.

The exhibit will continue until June 4, 2010…and is well worth seeing! Learn more about the exhibit and view images HERE.

We posted sometime last week about Ruidoso Chamber Music Festival’s upcoming free concerts. This week is the first in the series!

Go to the Performing Arts Center (Ruidoso Hight School) this Friday night for a free concert with the ENMU-Portales Brass Choir. The performance begins at 7:00pm.

Water

To compliment the Village of Ruidoso Public Library Summer Reading theme of “Water” – artists are invited to bring one or two pieces of artwork (2-D and
3-D) with a water theme – rain, rivers, snow, water faucet, ocean, etc. – for display at the library. (If your art uses REAL water, i.e. water fountain, bird bath, etc., – please put some facsimile of water in it.) Art work displayed is under the Art in Public Places, a project of the Ruidoso Regional Council of the Arts.

Please drop off your art at the Library Tuesday, June 1st between the hours of 2 and 6 pm, or make other arrangements with…

Ruidoso’s Fourth Annual Kite Festival is THIS WEEKEND!

Festival dates and times-
Friday, April 23 ~ 1 pm to 5 pm
Saturday, April 24 ~ 9 am to 5 pm
Sunday, April 25 ~ 12 to 4

f you can’t make all the days, just come for what you can! It’s promising to be bigger and better than ever…it’ll be great fun.

From Ruidoso’s Chamber Music Fesival 2010…

April 30, 7pm The ENMU-Portales Brass Choir performs at the Ruidoso Schools Performing Arts Center, 125 Warrior Drive. The student brass and percussion ensemble’s performance includes Ravel’s “Bolero” and excerpts from Horst’s “The Planets.”

May 15, 7:30pm Classical pianist Jacob Dehoyos performs at the Hurd Gallery, San Patricio.

May 25, 7:30pm The Woodwind Trio from the Albuquerque Symphony performs at the Hubbard Museum of the American West.

Lincoln County Community Garden

“Developing a Children’s Learning Garden,” presented by Julia Price and Patsy Blasdell. Come to RRCA this Saturday to learn about how to plan and start a garden that children can delight in and learn from as they watch it grow. You’ll learn how to create a Three Sisters Garden, a Pizza Garden, and a Sunflower; you’ll also explore the principle of gardening with native seeds indigenous to the Southwest.
