Come One, Come All!!! Opening Reception for the One-Man Exhibit will be Saturday July 2, 5-7pm at the RRCA Gallery. This exhibit will be of exceptional quality. A “Don’t Miss!” for your summer art experience. Dr. Smith works are multi-media, expressive, impressive and very unique.

Dr. Smith will wrap up his month-long show and sale with a workshop-discussion. He is a fountain of knowledge and experience and teaches innovation along 4 paths in the Art World today. Sign up early with Marne at the RRCA office because seating is limited. Mark Your Calendars! Workshop is Saturday July 30th at 10:00am. Cost is $25.00

Thursday through Sunday August 18 – 21. A very limited number of booth spaces will be available on a “first-come first-paid” basis. The applications will be available at the RRCA Office, payment for booth will be taken at the RRCA Office. $150.00 for current RRCA members and $200.00 for non-members. Payments for pre-arranged, completed applications will be accepted until Friday, July 29 at 3pm in the RRCA office. If there are still booth spaces available after July 29, they will be assigned by pre-payment only.

Any mailing of applications and payments should be done ASAP because of the limited spaces available.

RRCA Office Hours are Wed- Fri 10am – 3pm and limited hours on Saturdays during July. Please call ahead for the most accurate information. 257-7272

The Creative Gourd 2nd Annual RRCA Gallery Exhibition

The Creative Gourd

The Ruidoso Regional Council for the Arts will be presenting their 2nd Annual gourd art show in August of this year. The New Mexico Gourd Society (NMGS) will be one of the sponsors for this event. It is a juried exhibit that attracts outstanding gourd artists from all over New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. Watch this website posting for the latest news as the event fast approaches!

Anyone who is a resident of New Mexico, Arizona, or Texas may enter their artwork. An individual may enter up to three pieces, entry fees are as follows: $10 per item or 3 entries for $25.

The gourds may be entered in two major categories: gourd art and gourd art subject matter. The gourd art category is for the art on a gourd; and, the gourd subject matter is for art of any other medium (i.e. fabric, paintings, etc.) but must have a gourd featured as the subject.

All gourd art will be for sale with the R.R.C.A. receiving a 25% commission. There will be an Opening Reception on Saturday, August 6th, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

To compliment the Village of Ruidoso Public Library Summer Reading theme of “Water” – artists are invited to bring one or two pieces of artwork (2-D and
3-D) with a water theme – rain, rivers, snow, water faucet, ocean, etc. – for display at the library. (If your art uses REAL water, i.e. water fountain, bird bath, etc., – please put some facsimile of water in it.) Art work displayed is under the Art in Public Places, a project of the Ruidoso Regional Council of the Arts.

Please drop off your art at the Library Tuesday, June 1st between the hours of 2 and 6 pm, or make other arrangements with…

Just got dates and times set today for an art talk with Suzy Komara – Quilting Then and Now… Saturday, August 15, 2:00-4:00pm at the RRCA gallery. Cost is $10 per person. Suzy is a fun and uber-creative person – so it’s sure to be a great time. Bring a friend – bring lots of friends!

Alto Artists' Studio Tour

This year’s Alto Artists Studio Tour is set for August 8 and 9 (Saturday and Sunday), 10am – 5pm. There is a preview party planned for Thursday, August 6, 5-7pm, at Spencer Theater – everyone is invited!

Life Drawing and Painting

Experienced member artist Magdalena O’Campo is leading a workshop on Saturday, July 18 - Life Drawing and Painting.

Enjoy a morning session of drawing exercises with a live (clothed) model using graphite, charcoal or similar materials; and an afternoon session with watercolors. Materials provided. Light lunch and snacks/coffee provided.

Things will start at 9am and go until 4:30pm. Ages 18 and up. Cost is $60 per person. Contact RRCA by Friday, July 17, 3pm, to register. Pre-registration is required.

Summer workshops update…

Our handful of summer workshops are underway. Though registrations are coming in more slowly than we’d like, the kids we are connecting with are ones who would not be able to attend without a scholarship. We are so thankful for the scholarship donations received last week.

We’ve had a few kids come in as referrals from member artists – something else we’re thankful for. If you are looking for a way to invest in the local arts community…here are three great ideas:

- If you know any kids age 8-12 (or thereabouts) who might be interested in a workshop – send them our way.

- Better yet…sponsor your young referrals!

- Donate to our scholarship fund…workshops range in price from $30 – $60, but any amount is helpful and appreciated.

Coming up this wednesday, we’ve got an origami workshop that’s look like loads of fun…
